Erich Maria Remarque: 50th Anniversary in September 2020
On 27 September 1970 Erich Maria Remarque died in Locarno, Switzerland. For millions of readers around the world, ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (German original: Im Westen nichts Neues) is the quintessential antiwar novel. In addressing the horrors of war it has not lost any of its power since when it was first published in 1928.
Remarque published fifteen novels. Many of them were international successes and in some territories they are more popular than ALL QUIET. In Russia, for example, Remarque is best known for THREE COMRADES (German: Drei Kameraden) and the romantic novel A TIME TO LOVE AND A TIME TO DIE (Der Himmel kennt keine Günstlinge).
Dr. Thomas Schneider is one of the most respected Remarque scholars in the world. He wrote a brochure that summarizes Remarque’s life and works. It is available exclusively from this website for free download and circulation. To download click here.
